[7837] NAME/Parentage/DOB/DOBap: "Churchbooks of the Betzer Union/Zion Reformed Church, 1817-1881, Bloom Township, Fairfield Co., OH", Fairfield Co., Ohio, Chapter OGS, 1994, p 22. Name spelled "ALSPAG". Baptised same day as Heinrich HEIMBACH, s/o Heinrich and Saloma. Sponsor for Christina was Maria Anna Hering.

"JOSEPH FOREMAN, farmer, P. O. Rawson, was born August 30, 1830, in Franklin County, Penn. His parents, William and Eleanor (McNeal) Foreman, came to Eagle Township, thin county, with a family of eight children in 1845. The country being then new, they made the entire journey by wagon train, the older children, including Joseph, walking the whole distance. They settled on a farm in the northern part of Eagle Township, of which about twenty-five acres were cleared, and at once began improving and developing the place. They resided on this farm until their death; the mother died in 1850 and the father in 1863. Manifesting a spirit of patriotism, the boys, Joseph, John and George, gave their services to the Government during the war of the Rebellion. Joseph Foreman, the subject of this sketch, united in marriage, March 21, 1852, with Miss Christine Alspach, who was born in Fairfield County, Ohio, February 2, 1832, and came to this county in April, 1849. Her parents, Jacob and Polly (Miller) Alspach, lived in Fairfield County, Ohio, until the letter's death, after which Mr. Alspach moved to Indiana, where he now resides." Death certificate image. Christina Foreman died 28 Aug 1911 Eagle Twp., Hancock Co., Ohio, born Feb. 2, 1832 in OH, died aged 79y 6m 26d, widowed female. Resided in Eagle Twp. Buried Maple Grove 30 Aug 1911. Father Jacob Alspach and mother unknown Miller.

INDEX

[20778] NAME: Joan Byman's World Connect Project submission to ancestry.com. Not documented.

NAME: Joan Byman's World Connect Project submission to ancestry.com. Not documented. On all Joan's submissions, she shows that Ellen was married to "Ray Carrown". I could not find any Ray or Ellen or Ruth Carrown, let alone anyone with that surname at all. I searched the Ohio Death Certificate index and there's someone listed named Ellen Ruth BARROWS with the same death date as Joan shows. I then searched the 1930 census for Ellen Barrows and found the following:

CENSUS: 1930 Columbus, Franklin Co., OH; ED 46 Sh 21A p 193
BARROWS, Pery, head, rents home for $55/month, owns a radio set, does not live on a farm, 54y b WV, parents b OH, truck driver, flour mill
", Hattie, wife 58y b OH, parents b OH
", Edwin, son 31y b OH, salesman, first married at age 24
", Elen Ruth, daughter-in-law, 29y b OH, first married at 22, bookkeeper, grocery
", Ralph, son 25y b OH, salesman, general store
", Dorothy, daughter-in-law 22y b OH, first married at age 19
", Helen, daughter 20y b OH
", Ealph Jr., grandson 1y b OH, parents b OH

It appears "Edwin" is Ellen's husband, although Joan says his name is Ray. Perhaps it's "Ray Edwin".

Same Mary Delong? - Sixteen Year Old Boy is Arrested on Paternity Charge Filed in Squire Lane's Court. Case May Have to be Transferred to Juvenile Court Because of the Tender Age of the Accused Youth. William Aumock Jr., aged 16 years, was arrested yesterday afternoon by Constable Miller as the result of a paternity charge having been filed against the boy in Squire J. J. Lane's Court by Miss Mary DeLong, aged 18, north of the city. The lad will probably be arraigned before Squire Lane next Friday morning. It is understood that the case will have to be turned over to the juvenile court authorities owing to the fact that Aumock is only 16. Pending further proceedings he is being confined in the county jail. [Lancaster Daily Eagle, Lancaster, Ohio, March 8, 1916]

"Lloyd died in a barn fire, approximately 5 years old", from James Hursey email, March 1999.

DOD/POD: Name listed as Arthur Lloyd Foor, died 31 Aug 1901 Cold Spring Twp., 5y, V A p 161, Shelby Co., IL. "Illinois Statewide Death Index, Pre-1916" Illinois State Archives Web site.

"Child Burned to Death - Monday Coroner Horn went down into Cold Spring township to hold an inquest. The barn of Isaac Foor burned to the ground Saturday, consuming the grain and hay, four horses and the 5-year-old son, Arthur Foor. It seems the boy went down to the barn Saturday evening to play, and in a half an hour his mother, who was at the house near by, noticed the barn on fire. She rushed out at once but before help could come the building fell in. Monday the charred remains of the child were found in the ruins. The mother is prostrated with grief and her mind, it is feared, will be permanently deranged". [Daily Review, Decatur, IL, Sep. 5, 1901] NOTE: The mother lived until 1962, but the father died in less than a month's time. Have not found an obituary yet, but could it be attributed to the grief over losing his son?

LOCATION: 1905 - Chester C. Foor Has Failed. Assignment of Business Interests to Charles T. Sansberry of Anderson. Anderson, Indiana, June 28 - James B. Stewart, chef of the Grand hotel this city, filed suit today on a labor claim, calling for $1,451 and asking that a receiver be appointed to take charge of the business of Chester C. Foor, proprietor and manger of the hotel and also lessee and manager of the Grand opera house, both in the same building. The claim of Mr. Stewart was certified as correct by Mr. Foor, and Mr. Foor stated that with the consent of the court he would make an assignment to Charles T. Sansberry. Mr. Foor said his liabilities were between $3000 and $4000 and that the assets and hotel fixtures, with the leases, amounted to $15,000. Mr. Foor attributed his failure to lack of business to meet expenses of the hotel and opera house. He is undetermined as to his future, but he said today that it was probable he would return to Indianapolis his former home. [Fort Wayne Journal Gazette, Fort Wayne, OH, June 29, 1905]

[6766] DOB/DOD/POBurial: From info supplied to ancestry.com by Duke Clark in Feb. 2002. Not documented or verified. Years only 1900-1956.

NAME: "The Foor Family", George S. Conover, ca 1965, p 3.

NOT CONFIRMED that the George who's the son of William and Emma is the same George who married Myrtle Porter. Can not find another George who meets the date time frame and locale, so I'm only assuming at this time it's the same George.

NOTE: Since George L. Foor does not appear in the 1900 census with his family, and since states in his draft registration that he was born in the month of November, this would've been AFTER the 1900 census was taken if the year of 1900 was correct. Draft reg. shows he was born in Nov. of 1899. If that were true, he should've, technicailly, appeared with them in the 1900 census. Ancestry.com. "Elias Vendermark Miller, oldest child of Rev. Jacob and Mary (Keller) Miller, was born Feb. 22, 1824 in Fairfield County, Ohio. He grew up in that state, attended the district school, and also enjoyed church privileges amid conditions considerably changed from early pioneer times. he early learned the carpenter's trade and was always an expert workman. In the spring of 1844, when he was 20 years old, he joined a party of neighbors and emigrated to Jones County, Ia. Here he pre-empted land, at the edge of the "Big Woods", and built a log house. In Sept. of the same year, his parents and eight younger brothers and sisters came from Ohio to make their future home on the land which he had selected. In this house the youngest child, Judge Benj. H. Miller, was born, making ten children in the family.

... At any rate, on the 13th of January, 1848, he was united in marriage to Susannah GRAUEL. This union was blessed with the birth of four children. On the 24th of Sept., 1855, Mrs. Miller died, and he was left with four little motherless children. He sorrowfully laid his wife away in the Forest Chapel Cemetery in Jones County, Iowa.

... About the year 1890 his health began to fail. During the summer of 1892 he had a paralytic stroke. From this he never fully recovered. On the 26th of March, 1893, he died at his old home, on his farm in Greenfield township, Jones County. His age was 69 years, 1 month, 4 days. He was buried at Forest Chapel, Jones County, Iowa". [31589] "Of all the money ever I had I’ve spent it in good company

And all the harm I’ve ever done alas it was to none but me

And all I’ve done for want of width to memory now I can’t recall

So fill to me the parting glass, good night and joy be with you all

Of all the comrades ever I had, they’re sorry for my going away

And all the sweethearts ever I had, they wished me one more day to stay

But since it falls unto my lot that I should rise and you should not

I gently rise and softly call, good night and joy be with you all

If I had money enough to spend and leisure time to sit a while

There is a fair maid in this town that sorely has my heart beguiled

Her rosy cheeks and ruby lips, by own she has my heart enthralled

Then fill to me the parting glass, good night and joy be with you all.”

Thomas M. “Mike” Millay, 73, of Pickerington, passed away Thursday, January 29, 2015 at Mt. Carmel East after a brief illness.

He was born June 16, 1941, in Columbus, to the late Thomas P. and Mary Lucille (Heade) Millay. A 1959 graduate of Aquinas High School, Mike went on to serve his county in the United States Navy. After his discharge from the Navy he met his soulmate and love of his life, Reba Marie Mullins. They were married January 8, 1965 and together had two children.

One of Columbus’ finest, Mike retired as a homicide detective with the Columbus Police Department. Previously during his 27 years with the Columbus Police Department, Mike worked the streets and with SWAT. After his retirement, Mike put to good use his detective instincts working several years with the Ohio Attorney General’s Office as a state inspector investigating nursing home abuse and neglect as well as fraud.

A true Irish lad, Mike learned to embrace and celebrate his Irish heritage from his father. Mike was a lifelong member of the Shamrock Club of Columbus where he forged many lasting friendships. He looked forward to his annual participation in the St. Patrick’s Day Parade. In keeping with his love of his Irish heritage, and his love of the brotherhood among safety forces, Mike founded the Emerald Society the Columbus to promote camaraderie among other Police Officers and Firefighters of Irish descent. Mike was also a member of VFW Post 9473 in Reynoldsburg.

A dart and golf enthusiast, he was a member of the Eastside Dart League for many years and organized the Turnbury Golf League. He loved family cookouts and spending time with his children, grandchildren and his sister.

A fun-loving man, Mike was a practical joker with heart of gold. Ornery to the core with a wicked sense of humor, he loved to make people laugh. Mike worked hard, played hard, but most importantly, he loved even harder.

He survived by his wife, Reba Marie Millay of Pickerington; daughter, Loma “Tonja” (Tim) Vedrinski of Canal Winchester; son, Michael Patrick (Kellie Demmler) Millay of Groveport; sisters, Janet (Larry) Bender of Warren; Patricia A. Sauer of Reynoldsburg; grandchildren, Kyle (Cindy) Erwin; Deaven Vedrinski; Chelsea and Whitney Millay; great-grandson, Gabriel Erwin; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Mike was preceded in death by his sister, Joan Eddlemon.

Friends may call 2 to 6 pm Sunday at the DWAYNE R. SPENCE FUNERAL HOME, 550 Hill Road N. (SR 256), Pickerington, and again 10 to 11 am Monday at Gender Road Christian Church, 5336 Gender Road, Canal Winchester, OH 43110. Where funeral service will be held 11 am Monday, with Pastor John Romig officiating. Interment will follow in Lithopolis Cemetery with military honors rendered by the Lithopolis American legion.

Memorial Contributions may be made to Juvenile Diabetes Foundation, Mid-Ohio Chapter, 1550 Old Henderson Road, Ste. N-160 Columbus OH 43220.

Arrangements under the direction of DeVore-Snyder Funeral Home, Sunbury. Condolences may be expressed and memories shared at www.snyderfuneral homes.com.

[17009] HISTORY OF THE STATE OF KANSAS, William G. Cutler, 1883, Chicago, IL.

BIOGRAPHICAL SKETCHES (SKINNER - WILSON).
DR. O. J. SKINNER, physician and surgeon, was born near Montpelier, Washington Co., Vt., September 3, 1817. Is the son of Orson and Dorothea Skinner. His parents were natives of Massachusetts, and descendants of colonists who emigrated from England in the early days of the colonies. The Skinner family in America are the descendants of three brothers from London, Eng. (merchants), who settled sometime in 1600--one in the colony of Virginia, one in Massachusetts, and one in Connecticut. They engaged in connection in a coasting and importing trade. The grandfather was a Lieutenant in the war of the Revolution. The father was for some time Associate Justice in the Circuit Court for his county. The subject of this sketch was educated at Randolph Seminary, in Randolph Center, Vt. In 1838 he removed to Chicago, Ill., and remained there and in the vicinity over two years. A part of the time was employed as a Superintendent of Work in the construction of the Illinois & Michigan Ship Canal. Surveyed a state road from Chicago to Rockford, the first from the city leading to that portion of the State. He then removed to Summit County, Ohio, residing most of the time in Akron and vicinity for about six years, most of which was spent in the study of his profession and in teaching. His health failing (by advice), removed South, stopping at Jamestown, county seat of Russell County, Ky., where he was not permitted to rest, but was induced to teach once more. During the year so engaged, was appointed, and (until the adoption of the new Constitution) acted as Probate Commissioner for the county. In the meantime, was appointed Postmaster, which office was held for about two years, most of the official duties being discharged by a very obliging and intelligent medical student. Confinement still resulting in ill health, under advice, he sought an out-door, active life. The office of County Surveyor becoming vacant, was elected, and discharged (with the aid of a deputy) the duties of that office for four years, with more or less practice in his profession. In 1853, removed to Whitley County, Ky., engaged in the practice of medicine, and, with others, erected and operated an extensive mill on Cumberland River until the breaking-out of the war, which caused a suspension of nearly all business upon that river. During the war, on account of returning sick soldiers, and the absence of physicians, had a laborious practice, extending over a large area, even into Tennessee. To defend the border against the depredations of marauding bands of guerrillas, the militia of the State was organized, and Dr. Skinner, at the solicitation of the Governor, accepted a commission as Colonel of the One Hundred and Eleventh Regiment State Militia. He proceeded to organize the same, and discharged the duties assigned by His Excellency and the Provost Department, until near the close of the war. During his absence from the county, was elected Justice of the Peace, which office he held for four years. He served for fifteen years as Circuit Court Examiner for his county. In 1871 and part of 1872, was United States Division Assessor, embracing his own and other counties. In the early spring of 1872, he removed to Kansas, located on a farm in Center Township, and has engaged in the practice of medicine ever since. After living nine years upon the farm, he moved to Yates Center, where he now resides. He was married at Clio, Wayne Co., Ky., October 25, 1851, to an estimable lady, widow of Dr. Alonzo Clark, and daughter of Dr. E. L. Miner, of Lithopolis, Ohio. He has three living children--Julia M. Ashley, Elvira E. and Mary F. He has practiced medicine for thirty years, and is not only regarded as a skillful practitioner, but as one of our best and most reliable citizens.

Dr. O. J. Skinner came to this county in 1872 and located on a claim adjoining Dr. Turner's. He was a Vermonter by birth and a Kentuckian by adoption and instinct. Among all the workers of the profession none were or will be more studious and observing than he. He loved books and a late light; was possibly the best clinician of his fellows and the safest counsellor of all the coterie of workers of his time. None more patient and none more desirous of knowing all of a case than he. After years of hard work and kindly admonition to the younger brood of doctors he fell asleep, with his sack for a pillow. Among the old, fellows who came here in early days few were his peer as a careful, painstaking watcher and observer at the bedside of the sick, and none his superior. Pages 618-625, transcribed by Carolyn Ward from History of Allen and Woodson Counties, Kansas: embellished with portraits of well known people of these counties, with biographies of our representative citizens, cuts of public buildings and a map of each county / Edited and Compiled by L. Wallace Duncan and Chas. F. Scott. Iola Registers, Printers and Binders, Iola, Kan.: 1901; 894 p., [36] leaves of plates: ill., ports.; includes index.
