OBIT: Lithoplis Man Killed By Runaway Team - Monroe Lantz Thrown From Manure Spreader, Alighting on His Head - The tragic death of Monroe Lantz, aged 69, of Lithopolis, occurred at 6 p.m. Thursday when the team he was driving hitched to a manure spreader ran away, throwing Lantz out of the vehicle onto his head, causing almost instant death. The deceased was employed on the farm of Mr. Geo. Friebely one mile west of Lithopolis and was in the field alone some little distance from the barn. Friebelys were milking and heard the team coming but were too far away to stop their mad flight. The horses plunged into a wire fence in the rear of the barn. Upon hearing the crash Mr. Friebely rushed to the injured man finding him bleeding from the nose, mouth and ears. Dr. Kershner of Lithopolis was summed but the spirt had taken its flight before his arrival. Besides the wife there survives one son, Orville of Dayton, one brother, Neil of Columbus, two sisters, Mrs. Walker and Mrs. Rothfuss both of Lithopolis. Funeral services will be held on Sunday at 2:30 p.m. from the late home with burial in the Lithopolis cemetery by Weiser and Kistler, morticians of Lithopolis. [Lancaster Daily Eagle, Lancaster, Ohio, August 24, 1928]
