__ | |--William A. MCKELVEY | |__
[T122037]
William A. McKelvey was Drowned with Rocks Tied to His Neck. William A. McKelvey, who met sensational death at Toronto, was well known in Decatur and his wife's parents are Capt. and Mrs. Samuel McGowan of 1303 North College street. The only particulars of the death known to the Decatur relatives are those given in the following item which appeared in the Chicago Tribune. "The body of William A. McKelvey, formerly a Chicago manufacturer was found yesterday in the Toronto bay, heavily weighted with stones. The Toronto police think McKelvey was murdered, but his wife, Mrs. Katherine McKelvey, 375 Warren avenue, believes he committed suicide. She said he had acted strangely for two years. McKelvey, up to two years ago, was a member of the McKelvey Concrete Mixer company, 171 LaSalle street. When the firm dissolved partnership the Canadian patent rights were given to him. He went to Toronto to establish a manufacturing plant. When McKelvey left for Canada his wife opened a boarding house. He promised to send for her in a few months. He suffered business revers and ceased to correspond with Mrs. McKelvey. She had not heard from him in several months. Mrs. McKelvey said she had received no word of the finding of the body, except the newspaper dispatch. The body will probably be brought to Chicago for burial". Mrs. McKelvey was formerly Miss Cassie McGowan, daughter of Samuel McGowan. She is now in Chicago. Mr. McKelvey was an uncle of Guy Chenoweth of Decatur. Another nephew, Lloyd Chenoweth of Detroit, was in the city Sunday and will go to Chicago to see Mrs. McKelvey. The relatives in Decatur, although they know little of the death, are inclined to the belief that McKelvey committed suicide. They say he had been acting strangely and think perhaps he was mentally unbalanced. [Decatur Herald, Decatur, IL., Aug. 8, 1905]

__ | |-- WALTERS | |__
[T59555]
NOTE: It is unknown if Jesse S. and Nimrod Walters were brothers; this is only an assumption at this time. Jesse S. was residing in Hocking Twp., Fairfield co., Ohio in the 1850 and 1860 censuses. Jesse S., his wife, and at least two of his children are buried in Wesley Chapel Cemetery in Bloom Twp., Fairfield Co., OH. Supposed brother Nimrod and one of Nimrod's daughters are also buried there and in close proximity to Jesse S. and some other Walter's.
In researching Jesse S., I was looking through the cemetery book and noticed how 4 of the family, including the parents, all died in the 1860s, and ALL of the four tombstones were not located during a 1995 tombstone transcription that the county genealogical society did. Nimrod and his daughter's stone were not found, either. Once all these stones stood or laid together, and now they are all gone.
Only the fact that these Walters were at one time all buried together leads me to believe that Nimrod and Jesse S. Walters were somehow related.
_George Washington WEISER _+ | |--Angeline WEISER | |_Mary Jane HOMRIGHOUS _____+
[T97973]
NAME/DOB/DOD: Names appear to all be on one stone:
WEISER, Angeline, born June 5, 1867, died June 6, 1867, aged 1d
Hattie D., born July 27, 1874, died Aug. 5, 1875
Jessie L., born July 27, 1874, died May 25, 1875.
"Cemeteries of Bloom Twp., Fairfield Co., OH", Fairfield County Gen. Soc., Chapter OGS, 1996, p 35.
Because these children would not appear on any censues, I can't locate their parents. However, in reviewing the Weiser info I do have, there is one mother in the 1900 census who shows she had 9 children but only 6 living. Although parentage is not confirmed on these children, it's a great possibility that they are linked to the correct parents.
