The following appears to be the right James, or at least the same James who's in Waterloo, Violet Twp., Fairfield Co., Ohio in both the 1900 and 1910 census's. The date of birth for him in 1900 is strange... listed as Nov. 1863 when -- if it's the right James -- it should be 1836. It shows in 1900 that he's 36 and his wife is 60. If it's the right James and the last two numbers of birth have been transposed, then he'd be 63, a more likely age to be the husband of someone who's 60.

INDEX

[T37877] George Washington FREEMAN wrote a bit about his ancestors in a letter dated July 25, 1932. He mentions he's the oldest Freeman living, then in his 83rd year. He also mentions, "Matilda, daughter of William Freeman's first family and sister of Joel Edward and James came to Iowa in 1857 and shortly afterward married Oliver Foor, the oldest son of a preacher who lived in the village of Batavia. Father gave her a wedding outfit that equaled in value of what each of the brothers received. To this union were born Rhoda Penelope, Mellissa, two younger daughters and two sons.
Rhoda Penelope Foor Logan, wife of James V. B. Logan was born in 1864. She is the last survivor of the Oliver Foor family. Rhoda and Van were married about 1888. They had one child whose name was Annie. James V. B. Logan was born in Kentucky in 1840, served in the Fifth California Volunteer Infantry in the Civil War, died December 7, 1922 at the age of 82 and was buried in Stockton. Rhoda P. Foor Logan makes her home at present (June 23, 1932) with her daughter in San Francisco.
Annie Logan, daughter of Rhoda and James Logan married C. A. Milton November 9, 1890. She is childless.
Mellissa Foor, sister of Rhoda P. Foor, married Henry Clark. They had one child who is now living in Stockton. Mellissa died at the age of 29 in the year of 1889. Her husband is still alive." [Used with permission by Melissa Aldridge, who was given a photocopy of the typewritten original by Rita Freeman, 2002]

NOTE: If the above information is true... then Matilda must've wanted to go back to TN shortly after her marriage to Oliver (in 1858) to be with her mother who was then divorced. In 1860, her mother is living with them and listed as "widowed", which is common during that error for a divorced woman to list herself.

CENSUS: 1860 Grainger Co., IA, district 6, p 97, post office Rutledge.
FORE, Oliver, farm laborer b IA
", Matilda, 20y b TN (no place of birth shown fro anyone else in family)
", George L., 6/12 b TN
FREEMAN, Sarah 54y widow
Sarah Freeman was Matilda's mother. She was divorced from Sarah's father,
William M. Freeman who was born in Grainger Co., TN, in Jan. 1816. His first
wife was Sarah Churchman who he married 21 Mar 1835 in that county and had 4
children. Supposedly she did not want to leave her family in TN so didn't go
to Iowa with William and his brothers, so William divorced Sarah, went to IA
and remarried there before going to CA where he died in 1877 in Healdsburg,
Sonoma Co., CA. This Freeman info was from the www.freemanfamilies.com
website, and is not documented.

HAIMBAUGH, HENRY [Newcastle Township]
BIOGRAPHY
Henry Haimbaugh. - The man whose name appears at the beginning of this article is a native of Fairfield County, Ohio, born February 25, 1830. He received a common education in the schools of his native county. June 29, 1851, he married Apollina Holmes, of the same county, born May 28, 1834. In 1855, they came to this county and purchased their present home, a very valuable farm of more than two hundred acres of good land. Mr. H. is an enterprising farmer and has been very successful. He built the first brick residence in Newcastle Township. Himself and wife and most of his family are members of the Baptist Church, and for many years he has been one of its most substantial patrons. These are the parents of six children--Charles E., Andrew J., Sarah A., Obadiah H., Alonzo D. and Osie M., all living and all married except the yougest two. A sketch of Mr. H.'s parents is given elsewhere in this work. Obadiah Holmes, the father of Mrs. Haimbaugh, was a native of Ohio, and married Eliza Dille, of the same State. He deceased at his home in 1847, but his lady came to this State, where she died in 1856.
[T. B. Helm, Fulton County Atlas, A. L. Kingman, 1883, p. 49]

OBIT: Tues., March 23, 1915, Rochester Sentinel, Rochester, Indiana. "Fulton County Indiana Obituaries 1915, Jean and Wendell Tombaugh, 1998.

Henry HAIMBAUGH was born in Lockville, Fairfield county, Ohio, Feb. 25, 1830, and died March 19, 1915, aged 85 years and 24 days.
He was married to Apolina HOLMES at Lockville, Ohio, June 29, 1851. To this union six children were born, namely Charles E. [HAIMBAUGH], Andrew J. [HAIMBAUGH], Sarah A. [HAIMBAUGH], Obadiah H. [HAIMBAUGH], Alonzo D. [HAIMBAUGH], and Ossie M. [HAIMBAUGH]. All of these children are living and were present at the funeral.
Henry Haimbaugh moved onto his present farm in Sept., 1855, and had lived there ever since. Charles E. and Andrew J. Haimbaugh were born in Ohio, the rest of the children being born on this farm. After settling there in 1855 they immediately united with the Yellow Creek Baptist church and have been faithful and active members ever since. He leaves to mourn his loss, his wife, six children, 15 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren, a sister, Lydia MEREDITH, living in Kansas, and a host of friends to whom he has been "Uncle Henry" for years.
