The following is a cut and paste of the email I received in June 2011 from Marcia Lesman:
"I am attaching a photo of Rebecca Foor b. 4 Nov,1840 d. 26, Apr. 1921 who was my great grandmother. She was married to William R. Carr. I have his Civil War pension list and it talks of Rebecca in this article. I have misplaced pgs 1and 2 of the article but this is page 3 and does describe Rebecca.William was married and widowed before he married Rebecca.
William R. Carr married to, Rebecca Foor Carr 29 b PA, Children: William H Carr 18 b PA, Francis E (m) 13 b OH, Frederick R 11 b OH, Etha J 6 b PA, Colonel 1 b MI Rebecca says her father was foreign born and she cannot write. 1880 census: William 50 b Aug NY/NH/VT, Rebecca 40 b Nov PA/PA/PA, Ethalind 16 b Mar PA/PA/PA ?!, Colonel 12 b Nov MI/NY/PA, James 9 b June, Alpha 7 b Mar, Emma 4 b Apr, Edith 1 b Mar last 4 kids OH/NY/PA. Ethalind is a servant. Two houses away is Abraham FOOR age60.... also Richard and Samuel FOOR are in Amboy Fulton. There are many documents in the pension file from 1884 - 1887 requesting a pension, but again the pension is denied. In June of 1890 Congress approves a new pension act and William immediately applies again. This time he complains of a ruptured hernia, heart disease and rheumatism as well as the gunshot wound. The doctor that examines him says he is now 5* 5 1/2" tall,125 pounds, and that "this man is feeble and poorly nourished". One of the men who files a deposition on his behalf says "we attend the same M E (Methodist Episcopal) church in Metamora". Wm. is accepted and receives a pension of $12 a month beginning July 1890. On February 28 1893 a doctor is called to the Carr home at 1pm and says...."found him suffering collapse as a result of strangulated hernia which was brought on by sawing wood at his home". William dies 2 hours later at the age of 63 leaving Rebecca, his widow, with at least three young children at home. A few weeks later Rebecca applies for a widow's pension which is approved in March. She receives $8 per month plus $2 per month for each of her three children who are under 16 years old. They are Edith b March 31 1879, Charles b Jan 4 1881, and Leona b June 4 1883. (this is the Oney E Carr that everyone has trouble placing) Rebecca continues to receive her widow's pension until her death on April 26 1921. It has been increased over time until she is receiving $30 per month at her death. Williams first marriage was to Mary unknown b: AST 1833 in NY children from this marriage were: Julia Carr b: ABT 1850 in PA William H Carr b: ABT 1852 in PA Julia Carr b: ABT 1855 in OH Francis E (Frank) Carr b: ABT 1857 in OH Frederick R Carr b: ABT 1860 in OH His second marriage was to Rebecca Foor b: 4 NOV 1840 in Ray's Hill East Providence Bedford PA they were married on 19 NOV 1867 in Ogden Lenawee MI they had the following children: Colonel W Carr b: ABT 1869 in MI James M Carr b: ABT 1871 in OH Alpha B Carr b: 21 MAR 1873 in OH I also have Rebecca parents and Grandparents somewhere but will have to search. NOTE: Although this is obviously the same family as seen in the 1880 census,
the dates for the children are very skewed. Daughter Mary is shown in
baptismal records as being born in Feb 1864, yet she only aged 10 years
between the 1880 and 1900 census and is shown as being born in Feb 1874 and
only 26 years old. Son Thurman is shown as being now older than son Charles
-- Thurman being born June 1875 and Charles in Mar 1877 -- yet their baptismal and/or draft registration cards, it shows the opposite... Charles in June 1875 and Thurman in March 1877.
