NAME/DOB/DOBap: From "Churchbooks of the Betzer Union/Zion Reformed Church,
1817-1881, Bloom Township, Fairfield Co., OH", Fairfield County Chapter OGS, p 46. Parents listed as Joh Calvin and Lanora Fellers. Baptized on same day as brother Roy.
An Earl Fellers of Greenfield Twp., Ohio, entered into the infirmary at age 23 on 28 Dec 1908. "Destitute", still present in 1910. "Infirmary Records, Fairfield Co., Ohio, 1848-1910 and Death Records From the Infirmary Records 1911-1980", Fairfield County, Ohio, Chapter OGS, 1994, p 64.
This is an odd circumstance. Earl does not appear with his father and step mother in the 1900 census (his mother having died in 1897). In 1908 he was put into the county infirmary as 'destitute'. He was there still in 1910 and 1920. Somewhere between Jan. of 1920 when the census was taken, and 1925, he was put into the Athens hospital where he died in 1925. His death certificate has such limited info on it, but states he was buried in Betzer cem. No headstone exists for him there, and quite possibly none ever existed. I get the feeling that his family never visited him. He died of TB but the only thing I can find as to why he was originally put in an institution over 16 years prior to his death was that he was 'destitute". I see no mention of him being lame, maimed, crippled or an 'idiot' as they termed it back then. In 1910 his occupation was farm laborer at the infirmary.

NOTE: The way this census taker did the township is a bit confusing.
Normally he would use quote marks if the person's surname was the same as the
entry above it. For this family, though, he rewrote the name "Runkle" for
Katharine, which is often an indication that they are not married but perhaps
sister and brother. He also wrote out "Andrew Gipson" making it look as if
Gipson is the last name rather than the middle name as I've seen in other
records. It's hard to differenciate as to whether some of the names he wrote
down were MIDDLE names, or LAST names because of the way he made entries.

History of Hancock County, Ohio, Warner, Beers & Co, 1886.
WASHINGTON MOREHART, farmer, P.O. Vanlue, was born March 4, 1817, in Fairfield County, Ohio. His grandparents came from Westmoreland County, Penn., and were pioneers of Fairfield County, Ohio. Our subject, with his brother William Josiah and sisters Sarah and Maria, came to Hancock County, Ohio in 1833, and began pioneer life on land which he and his uncle, Andrew (then a resident of Seneca County, Ohio), had entered some time prior to that date. They soon erected a cabin and began clearing their land with a view to making a home. In 1839 Mr. Morehart married Elizabeth, daughter of George Breiner, and by her he has three children: Malinda, wife of F.M. Lee; Caroline, wife of R.M. Lee; and Christiann, wife of Isaac Wohlgamuth. Mrs. Morehart departed this life in 1884. Mr. Morehart lived on his farm forty years, then moved to the village of Vanlue, this county, where he has since resided, but still owns and manages his farm. He had but little to begin life with, but has acquired a fair competency. He has filled the office of township trustee for several years, and is man highly respected by his fellow townsmen.
From the same book, chapter on Amanda Township:
Another family of the Moreharts settled in Amanda Township in the spring of 1834, viz.: Washington, William Josiah, Sarah and Maria Morehart, natives of Fairfield County, Ohio. They located on the southwest quarter of Section 15, entered by Washington, July 29, 1833, and now the property of George Huff. Washington is the best known of the family. Born in Fairfield County, in 1817, he had not reached manhood when his mother came to this township. In 1839 he married Elizabeth Breiner, who bore him three daughters. In 1874 he removed from his farm in Section 9 to Vanlue, where his wife died, in December 1884. Mr. Morehart is one of the most intelligent and progressive farmers of the township.
