Obituary abstract sent in by Judith Flinn via email, April 2001: In her obituary it says "The death of Miss Maude Alspaugh, 76, Canal Winchester, occurred at 11 a.m., Wednesday in Grant Hospital, Columbus, where she was taken 12 days ago following a heart attack." She was buried in the Lithopolis cemetery.
" Miss Alspaugh formerly was employed at the Lazarus Co. for seven years. She and her sister, Gertrude, lived in New Philadelphia with a brother, Dr. Paul J. Alspaugh for seven years before returning to Canal Winchester in 1942." Please note that I realized after I sent Gertrude's information that I had her last name as Alspach when it should have been Alspaugh.
NOTE: According to the cemetery database, she is buried in lot 55, grave 1.

1960 - Mrs. George Foor, 29, route 5, was crushed to death about 5:25 p.m. Sunday when she fell from a moving car into the path of an oncoming automobile on highway 92-81 near Sunset Inn. She was dead on arrival at 5:35 p.m. at Muscatine General hospital... Mrs. Foor was a passenger in a car driven by her husband, 33. Foor told State Highway Patrol Officer Mark Irwin the right-hand door of the car swung open as he turned left onto a county road. He attempted to grab his wife when he saw her start to fall out but was unsuccessful, Foor said. The Foors' three small children were riding in the back seat of the car. An expectant mother, Mrs. Foor fell to the pavement in front of an oncoming car operated by Ernest Monroe Ross, 50, Mount Pleasant, Irwin reported. Ross, a former Muscatine resident, was traveling about 35 miles an hour. He applied his brakes but was unable to stop in time, he reported. Ross was driving southwest. Foor had been headed toward Muscatine until he turned to head for the Foor home on Funk's hill. Mrs. Foor died of crushing internal injuries. She also received head injuries and both her legs were fractured. Foor had left his work at Fruitland township turkey farm Sunday evening and driven to Letts to pick up Mrs. Foor who had spent the day with relatives there. They were on their way home when the accident happened... Mrs. Foor was born June 24, 1931 in Louisa county, the daughter of Earl and Nina Selzer Blake. She was married Oct. 29, 1949 at Muscatine to George C. Foor. She attended the Fruitland Baptist church. Survivors include her husband, two sons, David Allen Foor and Patrick Owen Foor, and a daughter Karen Lee Foor, all at home; a brother, Paul E. Blake of Fruitland, a sister, Carol Jean Blake of Fruitland, and her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Earl Black of Fruitland. Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at the George M. Wittich funeral home. Interment will be at Greenwood cemetery. [Muscatine Journal, Muscatine, IA, Dec. 19, 1960]

" He died on Jul 12 1961 in Hanover, Adams County, Pennsylvania from work accident at the Bethlehem Steel Corporation quarry.", from a Cisney genealogy website, no author shown, at fortunecity.com, 2005.
OBIT: BLAIRS MILLS MAN INSTANTLY KILLED IN 59-FOOT FALL A 32-year-old Huntingdon County man, Russell R. Cisney of Blairs Mills, was instantly killed yesterday afternoon when he fell 59 feet from a swing scaffold while working on an Adams County construction project. Cisney, a widower, died of a fracture skull and internal injuries. Dr. C. G. Crist, Adams County coroner said. Cisney, father of a seven-year-old daughter, was working for a contractor who is erecting a large new building at the limestone quarry for the steel firm. He was engaged at placing metal siding on the building when the accident happened, according to State Trooper Charles J. Todd of Gettysburg who joined the coroner in the investigation. Another worker, Neal A. Sieber, 32, of 105 Academy Hill, Lewistown, narrowly escaped being killed in the mishap. He was working with Cisney on the same scaffold, but managed to grab a steel girder when the scaffold moved away from the side of the new building. Sieber was rescued from his precarious position by fellow workers. It is ironic that Cisney was taking necessary safety precautions at the time of the accident which cost him his life. It is the practice to drill a hole in the steel girder and then attach a one- foot steel bracket to the girder. A four-inch tie-in rope is then used to keep the swing scaffold against the building. Cisney, a son of Mr. and Mrs. Brady Cisney of Blairs Mills had just started to drill a hole in a steel girder to place a tie-in when another screw pulled loose and permitted the scaffold to move away from the building. When the swing scaffold moved back, Cisney fell forward, falling between the scaffold and the building. Sieber was beside the victim, holding the next piece of metal they planned to place on the new building as soon as Cisney had completed the safety tie-in. Sieber told Trooper Todd that he felt the swing moving away from the building and he called a warning to his buddy and then grabbed to a steel girder in order to save his own life. The warning came too late and Cisney plunged to the ground. Despite the fact that Cisney's death is listed as "instantly killed", he was rushed to the Hanover Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival at 3:50 p.m.
He was born February 4, 1929, in Cromwell Township, Huntingdon County, a son of C. Brady and Nellie Irene (Campbell) Cisney. He was united in marriage to Mary Elnora Foore of Robertsdale on March 10, 1952. She preceded him in death on December 25, 1960. His parents of Blairs Mills, R.D., survive along with one daughter, Jeannette G., of Dry Run. One brother, Andrew Cisney of Shade Gap, and two sisters, Mrs. Dean (Lena) Berrier of Shade Gap, and Mrs. A. Lee (Wanda) Scott of Pughkeepsie, N.Y. survive. He was of the Methodist faith. Mr. Cisney graduated from the Orbisonia Area High School in 1947 and was a member of the Madden-Wennick Post 518 of Orbisonia. He was a veteran of the Korean War and was a member of the Bridge Workers Union, Local 404. He had been on the job with the Bethlehem Steel County for four months. Funeral services will be held on Sunday at 2 p.m. from the Ott funeral home in Orbisonia. The Rev. Arthur Price of Shade Gap, retired Methodist minister, and the Rev. Robert Sunderland of the Shade Valley Methodist Charge, will officiate. Interment will be made in the Salem EUB Cemetery at Blairs Mills

There remain to mourn his departure, 2 children, Leroy Ellsworth, Mary Elizabeth; 2 grandchildren, 1 sister, Mrs. Elizabeth Graham, and 2 brothers, Joshua and Daniel, and a host of relatives and friends. Fellers, age 27/30, single, b OH, parents b OH, born in Sept., died of unknown, resided in county for 27/30. It is not known what the 27/30 means... in prior entries, if a person was one month of age, it is listed as 1/12, and if a person's age is unknown or not certain, it appears he put parenthesis around it such as (18). Perhaps it indicates "about 27-30 years old".

"Perhaps one of the most sad affairs in the history of the village was the
suicide of Martin Zahn, following the horrible sickness and death of his
wife, which doubtless led up to it. Zahn was a shoemaker, peculiar maybe,
but honest and well-intentioned. There were two children, both small girls,
at home, and a grown son in the city. We have every reason to believe it was
a happy family, not wealthy, but above want. His trade bringing him a
competence. Then the wife was stricken. It was cancer of the breast in its
worst form. The flesh simply rotted away from the body. So offensive was
her condition before her death that it was impossible to remain in the room
with her for more than a moment. She died, leaving Zahn with the two small
girls to keep his house in order. His mind must have been affected by the
misfortunes which had come upon him. Very shortly his body was found in an
outhouse, a rifle lying by his side.", "THE VILLAGE. MEMORIES OF
