[T89571]
Fred D. Arnold, a well known resident of Womelsdorf, Pa., who is engaged in the undertaking business, and also carries on cigar making, was born Feb. 12, 1871, in Womelsdorf, son of William and Lizzie (Stettler) Arnold.
Martin Arnold, the progenitor of the Arnold family in Berks county, was a native of Germany and emigrated to America on the brigantine "Mary", which arrived at Philadelphia, Aug. 25, 1752. In 1759 he had settled in Heidelberg township, and in that year paid a federal tax of $7.98, or three pounds. It appears that he was married before his emigration. Among his children were: John had sons, Isaac, Daniel, William. Samuel, John, Henry and Amos; Jacob; and Rebecca married to Daniel Schneider.
Jacob Arnold, son of Martin, was born July 10, 1787, and died Jan. 15, 1850, aged sixty-two years, six months, five days. He was a brick-layer by trade, and built a house on Second street, Womelsdorf, where he died, and he was buried in the borough. Mr. Arnold saw service in the war of 1812, and was a good and upright citizen. He married Christmas Day, 1812, Eve Catherine Fidler, born in 1790, who died in Fairfield county, Ohio, in her eighty-fourth year. To them were born seven children: Eli died at Womelsdorf; Harry died in Fairfield county, Ohio; Lovina married Benjamin Peifer, and died in Marion township; Jacob married Catherine Moore, daughter of William Moore, of Reading, and died at Womelsdorf; Mary Ann married Fred Killis (whose father came from Germany and lived and died in Womelsdorf); William; and Daniel, twin of William, died in Fairfield county, Ohio, in 1905. All of the family is deceased, except for William who still lives in Womelsdorf.

"Mrs. Etta Oberle Celebrates her 95th Birthday - March 4 marked the 95th birthday of Mrs. Etta Oberle, resident of the Earl Rest Home near Rock Mill, who formerly lived at Carroll. The nonagenarian's two sisters, Mrs. Molly Drum and Mrs. Cora Morehart, also Mr. and Mrs. Richard Morehart, all of Carroll, Mrs. James White and daughter and Miss Ruth Coon, Ashville, visited with her Saturday afternoon. Mrs. White and MRs. Richard Morehart each brought a decorated birthday cake and served slices of the confections and ice cream which pleased Mrs. Oberle. In remarkably good health for her age, Mrs. Oberle told her visitors she hopes to reach the century mark. Last Thursday another niece, Mrs. Francis Noecker, Lancaster, visited Mrs. Oberle and presented her with a 'money tree'. On it were 95 bright new pennies fastened with colored ribbons, a very pretty arrangement." [LANCASTER EAGLE GAZETTE, Lancaster, Ohio, March 15, 1962, p 10.]

Rachel most likely died from complications of childbirth. Her last child, Delno Stotler, was born on Dec. 25th, 1891, and she died January 2, 1892.
The following submitted by Carol Cox, Feb. 2007:
Based on this source, I believe that the Margaret daughter of Ben and Phoebe is the same as the Rachel Margaret Peer who married William Stotler.
William E. Connelley, A Standard History of Kansas and Kansans, 1919, page 155, "Mr.[Philip H.] Peer is a son of Benjamin and Phoebe (Teagarden) Peer. His father was born in Pickaway County, Ohio, and died in 1881, at the age of fifty-six. He was a man of small means and never made a striking success in business affairs. During the Civil war he was a Union soldier in the ninety days service. He was a member of the German Reformed Church, while his wife was a Lutheran. His wife was a daughter of Daniel and Rachael (Croninger) Teagarden, who came to Ohio from Reading, Pennsylvania. Benjamin Peer and wife had the following children: Philip H.; Thomas, who lives near Winchester, Ohio; Joseph, who died unmarried in old Mexico; Nathan, of Franklin County, Ohio; John, of Greencastle, Ohio; Edward, of Winchester, Ohio; and Margaret, who married William Stotler and died in Pickaway County, leaving three children. 1967 - Car Plunges into Creek, Five Persish - Circleville, Ohio - A 36-year-old woman learning how to drive hit the accelerator instead of the brake at an intersection north of here Tuesday night, sending the car plummeting into a rain swollen creek. She and her four children drowned. Her husband, who was teaching her, survived. Vester Phillips, 31, of rural Ashville told authorities he jumpe from the car before it submerged completely in Big Walnut Creek, then tried to rescue his wife and children. But swift current force him to leave the water, he said. Sheriff's deputies recovered the bodies of Ruby Phillips, 36, and sons Gary, 7, and Donald, 3. Bodies of the other two youngsters, Diana 11 and Wendell, 9, could not be found in nearly five hours of searching by scuba divers. Additional divers resumed the search this morning. At one point during the search for bodies, a distraught Phillips, who suffered only minor physical injuries, tried to jump back into the water. He was restrained by sheriff's deputies and onlookers. A shaken Phillips told of climbing back to the road hysterically and trying to flag down four cars that passed. None stopped, he said. Finally, a farmer who lives nearby heard Phillips' shouts. He turned in the first report to authorities. [Athens Messenger, Athens, Ohio, May 17, 1967]

OBIT: [Decatur Daily Review, Decatur, IL, May 21 1925]
"Mrs. Delilah Foor Passes Away at home of Daughter, Mrs. H. M. Tallman. Was
ill but five days. "Well known woman had lived near Tower Hill for Many Years. Funeral at First Methodist Church here Friday Afternoon -- Interment in Glenwood Cemetery.
Mrs. Delilah Foor, for many years well known and highly esteemed resident of
Tower Hill, passed away at the home of her daughter, Mrs. H. M. Tallman, on
West Main street, at four o'clock Wednesday morning after a brief illness from pneumonia. She had been ill but 5 days.
Mrs. Foor was born in Ohio on December 31, 1846 and passed away on May 20,
1925, aged 79 years 4 months and 20 days. She was a daughter of Mr. and Mrs.
Daniel Swander. She came to Illinois from ohio 53 years ago. In 1862 she was united in marriage with Jesse W. Foor and to this union nine children were born, 8 of whom survive. Mr. Foor passed away on May 20, 1916. The children are Mrs. H. M. Tallman of Shelbyville, E. E. Foor, C. E. Foor, Mrs. Sadie Cullumber, Mrs. Lulu Sibbett, J. L. Foor, W. H. Foor and C. W. Foor, all of Tower Hill. A son, W. Fred Foor, passed away a number of years ago. She also leaves one sister, Mrs. Maria Hutton of Maroa, a number of grandchildren and great-grandchildren. For many years she had been a member of the Robinson Creek Methodist church.
Funeral services will be conducted in the First Methodist church in Shelbyville at 2:30 Friday afternoon. Interment will be in Glenwood Cemetery.
NOTE: Obit says she was born Dec. 31, 1846. If you take her death date and subtract her age at death listed in the obit -- 79y 4m 20d -- it comes out to being Dec. 30, 1945. That's three different dates of birth for her. The other is from baptismal records saying she was born 31 Dec 1844.
